The surgical resident came in this morning to more adequately explain the misdiagnosis. The fluoroscopy showed that the location of Olivia's intestines, relative to her spine, was consistent with a malrotation.
Keep in mind it is important for us to have a good sense of humor about these things. During the surgery they went exploring and provided the residents with essential training on what to do when pre-surgical planning goes awry. Not to mention the surgically-induced scars that will provide for a good story any day of the week.
Our timeline has changed. Olivia will be moved from Peds ICU to the Peds ward today and she'll likely be discharged late tomorrow. Obviously this is a huge blessing! They will be feeding her through the tube this afternoon. Right now she is getting IV nutrition and has not had her home meds since Sunday night. We will meet with the nutritionist to set up the plan and begin implementation.
We will be skilled providers by the time we leave.
On a side note, Olivia is enjoying her new personal dvd player while watching Rio. I will try to post a photo when I have saves to a computer.
