We left pretty close to 9 a.m. today. We dropped off Jack & Robin at a family friend's house, and ate lunch before we went to the hospital. We arrived at the surgery desk pretty close to 1 and received the paperwork we needed to take to the pre-screening area. This is when the real fun started!
After checking in with the nurse's desk, I filled out 5 or 6 different forms, and was warned that it would be a while. I said, "I'm sure it will take less than 4 hours, which is the time it would take for us to come back on another day, so we'll wait." Little did I know...
Olivia was called back pretty close to 3:45, and we saw the anesthesiologist. At first I was very concerned because he thought we were there for scoliosis surgery, as well as another patient's record was in her chart. I got that straightened out, and we then waited for them to clean a room for Olivia to go into for the nurses to give us directions for the prep ahead of time.
When we got in to have that conversation, they told us to call on Friday and they would give us the time of her surgery on Monday. I could not sign the consent for the surgery, because they did not list taking out Olivia's appendix on the form. Dave told me that Dr. Safford had actually given his reason for taking it out. When he is rearranging her intestines, there will be more room if he takes the appendix out. It makes sense. So they will likely add it to the procedure summary for Monday and we will sign it then.
We ended up getting home around 7:15 p.m. tonight. Dave had dinner ready and waiting for us. SO VERY THANKFUL!!!
I am glad to have today behind us.
