16 Hours Can Make a Big Difference!

Patience. Confusion. Frustration. These words come to mind when I think about the evening following Olivia's surgery. It was a trying, agonizing evening -- especially for Liv!

I talked to Sara this morning and she said, "What a difference 16 hour can make." It seems that they have (finally) gotten control of Liv's pain, for the most part. She is getting both IV pain medicine and an hourly shot. Sara said Liv has been able to sleep for about 45 minutes or so at a time, waking in need of relief --time for the shot of pain medicine. The docs will continue to tweak the iv meds to increase the threshold so she can be more comfortable. That said, she is in a much better place than when I left the hospital last night.

As a result of the surgery, Liv had a significant amount of facial swelling from lying on her stomache (I imagine slightly inverted as well) for almost 9 hours. Although the swelling in her lips has gone down, Sara shared that her eyes are still swollen shut. I imagine that is scarey for her. Sara is playing music for her and may even turn on Liv's favorite sound machine, which usually soothes her when she is going to sleep.

Mom and Avery are enjoying their "together time" and I know Sara and Dave appreciate not only her helping out, but also Dave's Mom helping with Jack and Robin in SoMa. (That's my nickname for Southern Maryland -- does anyone else call it that?)

Thanks for your continued prayers for Liv and for the rest of the family! God is Good.
