Glad to be in my own bed...

We got home (to Leonardtown) last night around 10:30, and Olivia was in her bed by 11. She was VERY happy to see her own mattress, and her sound machine that makes ocean waves. Her "white noise" in the hospital consisted of the medical computer's modem fan and the beeping of her monitors. The ocean is so pleasant.

I slept in the bed with her last night in case she needed me, but I only woke up to change my own position, and every time I looked at her she was very peacefully sleeping. She didn't need any kind of medicine through the night, and she hasn't even wimpered since we've been home.

She ate well this morning after her 10 a.m. wake-up. We gave her regular Tylenol just to take the edge off of the tenderness that the doctor told us would be there for about 2 weeks. She'll be a little sore for about 6 weeks. We will go back to see the surgeon on January 26. He will check her "wound sites" and make sure the recovery is going well.

Some information about the surgery that I didn't share on my shorter blogs: Her incisions were each about an inch long, three on each leg. One in the groin area, and two above the tendons on the back of her knee. The dissolvable stitches are on the muscles themselves, and the incision was closed with surgical glue. There are butterfly closures also over the incisions on the back of the knee, and some gauze and a large water-proof tape-like wound cover over the incisions on the groin area.

*** She is in her bed laughing right now. ***

Our routine will resume Tuesday, with visits to her therapists. I expected Dr. Todd would have her take the week off, but he only restricted her from bathing/showering for 7 days. We can wash her up, but not under the running water. We'll wash her hair this afternoon and give her a little sponge bath so she feels refreshed after her nap.

I really do appreciate all of the notes and thoughts and prayers, and packages that were sent to encourage Olivia and us. (We got your books Mrs. M - she LOVES the CD)
I will probably blog less in the next few weeks, but check back in about once a week or so, because I'd like to keep this going for a while. It's good therapy for me.

Take care, friends! God bless!
