Well, almost. Olivia was discharged today with pain well managed, needing only regular Tylenol to keep it under control. We have stronger meds if she needs them. We had to address her fluid intake, and today that was well controlled as well.
The doctor's limitations for Olivia are: only a sponge bath for the next 7 days, and not fully submerged for 2 1/2 weeks. No limits on therapy or weight-bearing beyond what ever is comfortable for Olivia. He said she may be sore at the site for up to 6 weeks, but primarily we will need to give her Tylenol for about the next 2 weeks, if she needs it. She has knee immobilizers similar to something a doctor would prescribe for a knee surgery. He doesn't want her to get into the routine of sleeping with her legs curled up for the entire night.
We go back January 26 and then February 25. At the February visit we'll discuss the next surgery. He expects that there will be many questions, but he's glad we had this experience before that.
We may be staying here tonight, since Liv is zonked. Our cut-off is 7:30 p.m. If we stay here, we'll head back tomorrow. This will keep us in the area in case we need to go back to the hospital or something. We'll let you know when we're back in Leonardtown.
