Best Laid Plans

I started this blog with the intention of writing in it as new things arise with Liv's surgery journey. My hope was to be able to write each day, but I haven't been able to keep up with that. I know most of you won't mind, but it's a bummer that I haven't tracked each day for my own benefit.

Well, that being said, I wrote last on Thursday. Liv slept that night about 6 1/2 hours Thursday night before she woke up and we gave her more pain medicine. She slept an additional 4 1/2 hours and woke up smiling. On Friday she only needed her pain medicine about every 6 hours, instead of every 4. That was a big improvement, and she had a good day. We had hoped that pattern would continue into Saturday.

She is taking valium as well as the pain meds. In the hospital she had it 3 times a day, around the clock. We're trying to extend all of her medicines as long as we can without adverse effects on Olivia. I think Saturday we tried to stretch it a bit too far, as she had a rough night, and didn't get a whole lot of good rest. It was not on the same level as what we dealt with in the hospital trying to get her medicines right, but she didn't rest well.

We scaled back to the "suggested" dosages today, and she had a better day, but didn't sleep like she usually does, even before surgery. She had a fair amount of dinner, and a bit to drink with her medicine before bed, so hopefully it'll do the trick. I would prefer her to eat and drink a bit more, but we'll have a chance to give her some more during the night, if she wakes up.

Olivia got to spend quite a bit of time outside today. Dave fed her breakfast and dinner out on the front porch. I think she really enjoyed not being in her room or looking through the window at the beautiful day, like we had in the hospital.

Tomorrow we may venture out for a walk. Mom is visiting and she told the younger two kids she'd like to go down to the water to look at the scenery, and Liv & I may tag along!

Mom, Jack, Robin & I went to church this morning. Many people asked about Olivia. I am glad most people have been following the blog, and were up to speed with her progress. I am really motivated to keep up with the blog, since the journey is still ongoing, and I know that people are reading!
