News For Today

They turned off Olivia's epidural pain medicine yesterday. We spent the better part of the day and night trying to get her pain under control. She is now taking Tylenol with Codeine and getting Morphine through an IV. Last night they had to switch her medicine around so she could sleep. It worked, and she was able to get some rest.

This morning one of the Orthopedic doctors told us that today would probably be hard on her as well. A good plan was put in place for her to alternate her two pain medicines. She seemed better today than yesterday, but the days ahead are going to be hard.

Dr. Todd asked us to consider putting a "short spica" cast on Olivia, because he feels that if she has the support from the cast, she may not have as much pain. It would be for three weeks instead of 8. We will decide and let him know. He wants us to shoot for her discharge on Thursday. It has take longer than we thought for the hospital recovery for this surgery, but it has been necessary.

She has been very brave through all of this. I am sure she will be happy to get home to her own bed, and get back to her routine. Hopefully we'll be home so she can sleep in her bed by the end of the week!
